Guardian Pharmacy of NWFL recently attended the Florida Health Care Association’s (FHCA) District X regional meeting. With over 50 administrators and nurses in attendance, three inspectors from the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) spoke on the top ten health deficiency citations in long-term care. Of the citations discussed, two apply directly to pharmacy services.
In 2013 and 2014, Tag F0431 and Tag F0329 were among the top ten deficiencies.
Tag F0431 deals with drug records and the label and storage of drugs and biologicals. This citation can be avoided with proper cart audits, medication room inspections and house stock inventory inspections. These tasks are performed routinely by Guardian Pharmacy of NWFL’s clinical nurse specialist and account manager.
Tag F0329 ensures that drug regimen is free from unnecessary medications. Our consultant pharmacists work closely with the nursing staff in each facility to monitor the usage of medications accordingly, including follow-ups on PRN usage and excessive dosage.
This meeting was beneficial for Guardian NWFL employees to attend because the topics discussed are relevant to our industry and some of the challenges our customers are facing. We strive to provide excellent resident care and are always working to improve our services. Guardian Pharmacy of Northwest Florida is proud to be a member of the FHCA and enjoys connecting with others members in its area.
